Long Zhang is taking his leave of the Stoddart Group at Northwestern University to begin an important new chapter in his career in industry. He is joining the SI Group in Houston TX where he will cut his teeth as a Lead Synthetic Chemist in their Global Innovation Center starting in August.
Long joined the Stoddart Group from Fudan University in July 2017. During his six-year tenure, he has focused on the design and synthesis of artificial molecular pumps and motors based on mechanically interlocked molecules. His six years in the Research Palace have been marked by producing research of the highest quality. Notably, Long is inventor of the first catenane-based electric molecular motor—a remarkable advance in the design and synthesis of molecular machinery that has elevated the field of molecular nanotechnology onto a whole new level. The results of his research were published at the beginning of this year (2023) in Nature.
As he embarks on his new journey, Long aspires to leverage his knowledge to effect positive transformations within the chemical industry, aiming to shape a more sustainable future for us all.
Congratulations and best wishes, Long! We look forward to witnessing your career flourish in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.
