Kang grew up in Hunan, China. He received his B. S. degree in chemistry in 2011 from Peking University, and remained there to pursue his PhD under the guidance of Professor Dahui Zhao. His PhD focused on the development of novel organic π-conjugated dye molecules with interesting opto-electronic and self-assembly properties. In August 2016, he joined the Stoddart group at Northwestern University as a postdoctoral fellow. His current research interests include the design and synthesis of new redox-controlled molecular machines and stimulus-responsive molecular muscle materials.
