Chun was born and grew up in Xinjiang, the largest province in Northwestern China. He received his BS degree in chemistry from Xiamen University in 2015. At the same university he obtained his PhD degree in physical chemistry with the joint guidance of Professors Haiping Xia, Wenjing Hong, and Yuanzhi Tan. During his PhD Chun used the single-molecule technique to study aromatic chemistry and explore the effect of orientated external electric fields for electrostatic catalysis. After spending one year as a research assistant at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, Chun joined the Stoddart group as a postdoctoral fellow in 2021. His current research involves the development of molecular machines for electrostatic catalysis and the design of single-molecule electronic devices based on supramolecular chemistry.
