Chinnaraja was born and raised in Doddappanaickanur in Tamilnadu, India. He pursued his BSc Degree at Arul Anandar College, affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University. Afterwards, he obtained his Masters Degree from Gandigram Rural Institute (Deemed University). He then joined the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Division, as a PhD Research Scholar under Dr P S Subramanian, at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute where he developed in 2020 a new series of enantiopure metallohelicates and studied their applications to enantiodivergent asymmetric catalysis. His PhD research was recognized with the GSA-Best Thesis in Science Award under the Chemical Science and Gold Medal by the Gujarat Science Academy (GSA). Thereafter, he moved to the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras to work as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Professor Dillip Kumar Chand on the synthesis of molecular Pd(II) cages.
He joined Professor Fraser Stoddart’s Research Group in August 2021. His research interests are in chiral switchable molecular architectures like rotaxane, catenanes, and pillar[5]arene metallo-cages. He will tune their unique chiral properties and exploit their functional applications in asymmetric catalysis. Welcome Eswaran!
