Liang Feng honored with two prestigious MRS awards

Postdoctoral Fellow Liang Feng has been selected for one of this year’s MRS Postdoctoral Awards. The MRS Postdoctoral Award recognizes postdoctoral scholars who are showing exceptional promise that may include, for example, excellence in scientific research, leadership, advocacy, outreach, or teaching, during their postdoc assignment.  The MRS Postdoctoral Award Subcommittee recommended Liang’s selection, and the Board approved that Dr Feng be presented with the award “for the discovery of mechanisorption, a fundamentally new mode of adsorption. The award consists of a $2,000 honorarium and a trophy. Dr Feng has been also invited to participate in the MRS Award Recipients—Lightning Talks and Panel Discussion event during the 2022 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 5:15 pm – 7:00 pm, joining this year’s awardees from Northwestern University, including Chad A. Mirkin (MRS Medal), George Schatz (Materials Theory Award), and Samuel I. Stupp (Von Hippel Award). MRS acknowledges the Jiang Family Foundation and MTI Corporation for their generous contribution to support this award. Read more here.

MRS Bulletin has named Liang Feng as the 2022 recipient of the MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize. This award recognizes postdoctoral researchers for their intellectual merit, the impact of their research and scholarship, and their interest in science writing and communication. Feng was selected for “his excellent academic achievements, passion for his chosen area of research, interest in communicating his research and science to nonscientists, and significant leadership potential in the field of multidisciplinary materials science.“Climate and energy crisis are the most challenging issues right now,” says Feng. “My research focuses on uncovering new functional materials and new adsorption mechanisms to tackle big challenges in these directions. It is my great honor to receive the MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize, and I am thankful for this platform to share my interest in making the world a better place through innovations in materials science.”The prize consists of a $2000 cash award, a profile published in MRS Bulletin, a complimentary one-year membership to the Materials Research Society, and an invitation to publish in MRS Bulletin.
