Fraser Stoddart made his first appearance at the STS 2019 Annual Meeting in Kyoto, Japan on October 9 – 10th. The Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum aims to provide new mechanisms for open discussions on an informal basis, and to build a human network that would, in time, resolve the new types of problems stemming from the applications of science and technology. The forum community also explored the opportunities arising from science and technology, and addressed how to remove the barriers to using science and technology to solve the problems facing humankind. While in Kyoto, Fraser was welcomed personally by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for an engaging discussion over breakfast, along with seven other Nobel Laureates and 30 world leaders in science and technology in addition to government policy makers from many different countries.
