Gold Recovery Goes Green - An environmentally benign sugar — alpha–cyclodextrin, which is derived from starch — acts as a highly selective sequestering agent for the gold salt, potassium tetrabromoaurate. The serendipitous discovery of this green method for recovering gold from crude sources was reported in an article published in Nature Communications on 14 May 2013. The research has been highlighted in over 500 news outlets including AFP, Popular Science, Science Daily, Huffington Post, the Xinhua News Agency, Nature Asia, Nature Middle East, C&E News and RSC Chemistry World.
