I was born in Mayfield Village, which is a suburb on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. I enjoy watching college football, and going to the games whenever I can. I am also a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers. I earned a BS in chemistry from Miami University and participated in undergraduate research with Dr. Hongcai Zhou, where I studied inorganic synthesis mostly pertaining to the creation of new MOF structures. In June of 2007 I moved to Evanston and spent a summer working for Dr. Regan Thomson, and studied organic synthesis. In the Fall of 2007 I joined the Stoddart group as a first-year graduate student. I am currently working on snap-top nanovalve systems, in hopes of creating systems that will one day be used for cancer therapy and diagnostics. This project involves attaching rotaxanes to the surface of mesoporous silica nanoparticles, and the rotaxane stoppers can be cleaved by a variety of stimuli to release a drug or fluorecent dye into a biological system.
