Message:

I was born in Donggang city (South Korea), small but clean water and air, and very kind people, where I spent elementary school period. Then I moved to Gimhae city, near Busan, for middle and high school periods, where is famous area under flowers and vegetables (tomato, cucumber, red pepper) cultivation. I started chemistry study in Chinju city, old history (more than 400 years), culture, and education. After receiving my bachelor's degree in chemistry at Gyeongsang National University in Chinju, I majored inorganic and analytical chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Shim Sung Lee at the same university. My research work was focused on the organic synthesis of oxygen-sulfur mixed donor macrocycles, the synthesis and structural characteristics of coordination polymers and supramolecular complexes, solvent extractions, NMR titrations, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Especially I had some training of operations and structure refinement for single crystal X-ray crystallography. In 2003, after receiving my Ph.D. degree, I started my first postdoctoral fellow, the fellowship was awarded from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), at the Nanoarchitectonics Research Center (NARC) of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) with Dr. Masumi Asakawa (host researcher) and Dr. Toshimi Shimizu (group director) on “Synthesis of the [2]rotaxanes incorporating metallosalen or metallosalophen moieties". And in 2005, I moved to Prof. J. Fraser Stoddart group at UCLA and I started my second postdoctoral fellow with the interesting projects. When I have free time I enjoy going to beaches, museums, libraries and parks with my family (wife and two kids).
