I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas which is a small city along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I received my BSc in chemistry at Texas A&M University C.C. where I worked as an undergraduate researcher for Dr. Eugene and Fereshteh Billiot for two and half years as an N.S.F Louis Stokes A.M.P. and Welch fellow. My undergraduate research focused on the characterization of amino acid based surfactants to be used as pseudo stationary phases for micellar electro kinetic chromatography. During the summer of 2004 I found myself working in the lab of Dr. Jack Beauchamp at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California as a Howard Hughes Institute fellow. Here I briefly worked on the development of fluorescent chemical sensors for the determination of enantiomeric excess in gas phase analytes. I now find myself working among some of the world's best synthetic organic chemists in the labs of Prof J. Fraser Stoddart where I too am enjoying making interlocked compounds. In my free time I enjoy dancing, working out, dinner parties, and wine bars. My current research focuses on the synthesis of exotic molecular switchable materials including bistable side-chain poly[2]catenanes, reconfigurable (Au, Pt, Pd, Ag) nanoparticle assemblies , and reprogrammable self-assembling polymer blends.
