I was born and grew up in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, The People's Republic of China. My passion for chemistry burgeoned from reading the famous Chinese science encyclopedia for children: A Hundred Thousand Why’s. As an undergraduate student in Peking University (Beijing University), I decided to receive my B.Sc. in chemistry. I started to work in Dr Jian Pei's research group in my sophomore year on organic conjugated materials. During the two years of research on sulfur-containing PAH’s, I became very interested in supramolecular chemistry and moved to Stoddart Group, UCLA to continue my career. Despite the fact that I have spent more than twenty years in China, the country with one of the world’s oldest civilizations, there are still many wonderful places that I have not yet visited. Traveling around the country with my family in the distant future would be fabulous. In my spare time I like to read classics of ancient China and others from all over the world. My favorite novels are Dream of the Red Chamber and A La Recherché Du Temps Perdu, and the dream of reading the French version of the latter even stimulated me to learn a bit of the language. Being a big sports fan, especially about volleyball, I joined Peking University men's team as a middle attacker, which really signified the college time in my memory. Santa Monica's beautiful beach will be a fantastic place for me to enjoy this hobby.
