I was born in Leicestershire in the United Kingdom in 1979 (which makes me a 70’s child - just) and grew up in the small town of Shepshed. After residing in the ‘midlands’ for 18 years I ventured south to the University of Reading where I studied chemistry and part of my degree program entailed an extensive research project employing controlled free radical polymerization techniques. After my degree, I stayed at Reading and undertook postgraduate research under the guidance of Dr Wayne Hayes and graduated in December 2004 with a PhD in organic and polymer chemistry.
In January 2005, I made the trip across the Atlantic leaving the UK (and the weather) behind and became a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Stoddart group here at UCLA. Here, I am able to satisfy my curiosity within the areas of supramolecular chemistry and nanoscale science, and reap the benefits of working in such an international ‘cultured’ environment.
Outside of the lab I like meeting new people and enjoy the social scene that Los Angeles has to offer. I am an avid football fan (or should I say “soccer”) and I support my local team, Leicester City and of course England!! I love Cadbury’s chocolate and enjoy playing the board game (?) Twister!! I also enjoy skiing, working out at the gym and watching most sports as well as chilling out listening to music or watching TV.
Currently employed by Procter & Gamble based in Cincinnati Ohio!!!
