Message:

I was born in Urmia, Iran, and grew up in a small town called Menden (Sauerland) in Germany. I started studying chemistry in 2005 after a one-year internship at the Chemical Kruse KG Company. To a large part, I dealt with biochemistry, scientific computing and programming at the Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen. This was followed by studies in synthetic photochemistry at the DCU (Dublin, Ireland) and JCU (Townsville, Australia) both under the supervision of Prof. M. Oelgemoeller. In 2009 I received my Diploma degree and GCResMeth degree in Chemistry and then started my PhD in physical organic chemistry on stable phenalenyl-type cations and radicals at the University of Glasgow until May 2013. Whilst I was writing up my thesis, I worked as a consulting student for Prof Leroy Cronin and subsequently started my position as a research associate in the Cronin group where I contributed in the synthesis of organic molecules such as host-guest supramolecular structures, stable radicals, dyes, or potential organic-electron-coupled-proton-buffers (OECPB). I was also involved in the international MICREAgents project funded by Future Emerging Technologies in the EU FP7 program, which comprises array chemistry, chemical sensors, and supercapacitors towards the development of unconventionally computing microchips called lablets. In February 2016 I joined the Stoddart group where I will be working on the progress in synthetic chemistry of organic pi-radicals and the integration of novel open-shell species in supramolecular processes.
