I am from the Hunan province of China. For my undergraduate studies,
I spent 4 years at Southeast University, where my first supervisor
Professor Guodong Fu aroused my interest in chemical research. I began
my research with the preparation of nanofibers, combining
electrospinning with novel polymerization methods. In the fall of
2007, I moved to East China University of Science and Technology to
start my graduate career – majoring in Applied Chemistry – and my
research focused on the synthesis of functional silica nanomaterials
and their application to biological systems. I was fortunate enough to
be supervised simultaneously by Professor Jinlong Zhang and Associate
Professor Lingzhi Wang, and they helped to spark my interest in the
fantastic world of nanotechnology. I enjoyed the time I spent working
in the lab and I have learned basic knowledge of nanomaterials,
especially mesoporous silica, and gained many experimental skills and
experience. I recently joined Professor Stoddart's
Mechanostereochemistry Group as a visiting pre-doctoral scholar, since
I am interested in molecular machines and I would like to combine them
with my mesoporous silica and other materials to yield new systems on
the nanoscale level. I believe I will learn much from this great group
and enjoy a good time at Northwestern University.
