I grew up in Bad Homburg, a beautiful town near Frankfurt/Main in Germany. My interest in chemistry dates back to my days in school and led me to the decision to study chemistry at the Freie Universität in Berlin. Besides enjoying Berlin as a wonderful city, I obtained my Diploma degree in the research group of Prof. Stefan Hecht for studies of the aggregation behavior of squaraines. Afterwards, I followed the Hecht group to the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim/Ruhr to start my PhD studies on the design of photoswitchable catalyst systems. In 2006, the group moved back to Berlin and I obtained my PhD from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In October 2009, I joined the Stoddart group as a postdoctoral fellow. Currently, I am interested in the synthesis of mechanoresponsive mechanically interlocked molecules. In my spare time, I like to roam around taking pictures with my SLR camera, traveling, and running.
