I was born and grew up in Mugla, a mid-size coastal city in Turkey nearby the Mediterranean Sea. My interest in chemistry started when I involved with chemistry olympiads in my high school years. My experience with the olympiads motivated me to study chemistry in college. I started my undergraduate studies at Bilkent University in 2002. In my senior year I did research on liquid crystal systems. After graduation, I was interested in supramolecular chemistry and decided to join Prof. Akkaya’s group to pursue M.S. degree. I worked on synthesizing novel energy transfer cassettes and dye-sensitized solar cells. I joined Stoddart group in September 2008. I am excited about the research environment in here. Currently, I am working on functionalized nanoparticles & nanowires, oligorotaxanes, and metal-organic frameworks. I like running, playing soccer, and traveling. In my spare time, I usually watch TV shows. Besides few Turkish series, my favorite shows are Lost, Prison Break, 24, and The Fringe.
