Message:

I was born in Meerut, India. My father being an army officer, I grew up in different parts of India spending few years in every place. After his retirement we settled in Kolkata. I always dreamt to serve my country as an army officer until my high school when I got influenced in chemistry by my chemistry teacher (G. Uma). I graduated with my BS in chemistry (with Hons.) from Ramakrishna Mission , Narendrapur in 2001. I moved to IIT Kharagpur (the first IIT in India) to finish my MS in organic chemistry in 2003 where I worked in Prof. Tanmaya Pathak’s research on carbohydrate chemistry and spent time in synthesizing vinyl sulfones modified carbohydrates. During summer of 2002, I worked with Dr. Braja G. Hazra at National Chemical Laboratory, Pune where I synthesized few novel antibacterial and antifungal bile acid amides. In fall 2003 I moved to University of Nevada, Reno to pursue my Ph.D. I worked in Prof. David A. Lightner’s pioneering research on bilirubin for five years synthesizing novel amphiphilic bilirubin analogs and some novel fluorescent dipyrrinones and tripyrrindiones. I finished my graduate studies in October 2008 and joined Sir Fraser Stoddart’s research group in November 2008. I am currently working in collaboration projects on MOF’s, rotaxanes, light harvesters and molecular electronics. Outside the chemistry world, I love driving in american freeways for long hours, listening and singing bollywood movie songs, taking apart electronic gadgets and eating long hours in Chinese buffets.
